CHIEF DR. KEDDY NWACHUKWU ECCLES-JAMES

AUGUST 23, 1946 - MAY 16, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Chief Dr. Ked Nwachukwu Eccles-James.

Keddy, as he was fondly known, was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone on August 23, 1946. He was the third child of six children born to the late Mr. Horace Eccles-James and his wife, the late Mrs. Arina Princess Eccles-James.

Keddy died on May 16, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, at the age of 76. ,

His education started in Sierra Leone at The Sierra Leone Grammar School in Freetown. He continued on to Lviv State Medical Institute in the former USSR to begin his medical studies and went on to the University of Frankfurt/Main in Germany where he obtained his doctorate in Medicine.  He practiced as an internist and a specialist physician in Moers, Germany at Bethanien Hospital, Freetown, Sierra Leone at Connaught Hospital, and Princess Margaret Hospital in The Bahamas. He eventually settled in Mississippi working as an internist at Family Health Center in Laurel, Mississippi, and Inland Family Practice Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi until he retired in June 2022.

He met his beloved wife, the late Chief Mrs. Chinyere Eccles-James in West Germany. They were blessed with a son and two daughters.

Keddy was a devoted husband, an amazing father, and a gifted physician. He instilled in his children the importance of education.

Keddy was a unique and unforgettable man, who exuded warmth and kindness.

Keddy and Chinny lived in Petal, Mississippi for most of the later part of their lives. Chinny, or Mausi as he fondly called her preceded him in death on May 23, 2022.

He is survived by, his son Michael Eccles-James, daughters Nkechi James-Gillman Esq., and Dr. Ijeoma James-Williams, grandchildren Georgette, Amira, Samantha, Caleb, Chase, Colton, and Kenzo.

He is also survived by his two siblings, Kehinde Eccles-James and Charles Eccles-James, as well as in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Tunde Eccles-James, older brother Eric Eccles-James, younger brother Harold Eccles-James, and younger half-brother Alan Eccles-James.

He will be sorely missed.
